What Psyche is — and isn't

Psyche is an AI-powered reflection and coaching tool grounded in contemplative psychology. It is not therapy, medical care, or crisis support, and it is not a substitute for any of them. AI can be wrong; treat Psyche's words as a mirror to think with, not instructions to follow. If you are in crisis, use the support options in the app or contact local emergency services.

Your account

You must be 18 or older. Keep access to your email secure — it is your key to Psyche. You're responsible for activity under your account.

Your API key

Psyche runs on your own AI key. You provide a valid key (for example, from Anthropic), and the cost of your usage is billed to you directly by that provider — this is what keeps Psyche affordable. You're responsible for keeping your key valid and funded; if it runs out or is removed, the conversation features pause until you add a working one. Your use of the underlying AI is also subject to that provider's own terms. We store your key securely to run Psyche on your behalf (see the Privacy Policy), and you can replace or remove it any time. We aren't responsible for your provider's charges, outages, or policy changes.

Plans, payments and limits

Free and paid plans have message limits described at purchase. Paid plans are billed through Paddle, our merchant of record. Founding "wave" purchases grant lifetime access to the features described in that wave's offer at the time of purchase. Prices for future waves may change. Refunds follow our refund policy at purchase and applicable consumer law. If we ever permanently discontinue a feature covered by a lifetime wave, we'll give reasonable notice and let you export your data; where the law requires it, we'll provide an appropriate remedy. A lifetime licence is access for as long as Psyche operates that feature, not a guarantee it will exist forever.

Referrals and earnings

If you take part in the referral programme, how you earn and get paid is set out in our Payment Terms.

Acceptable use

• Don't attempt to break, overload, reverse-engineer, or misuse the service.
• Don't use Psyche to harm yourself or others, or for unlawful purposes.
• Don't resell access or share accounts.
• Don't edit, crop, or remove branding or referral codes from Psyche content; share it only as provided.

Safety

Psyche isn't a crisis service and can't monitor for emergencies. In rare cases, where we reasonably believe it's necessary to prevent an imminent risk of serious harm to you or someone else, or to comply with the law, we may access or disclose limited information. We're not obligated to detect or act on any particular situation, and you agree not to rely on Psyche to do so.

Your content

Your conversations and assessment answers are yours. You grant us the limited licence needed to store and process them to provide and improve the service (see the Privacy Policy). Pearls and other content we provide are for your personal use and sharing through the features we offer.

Service changes and availability

Psyche is evolving. Features may change, be added, or retired. We aim for high availability but don't guarantee uninterrupted service.

Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law (including the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act where it applies), Psyche is provided "as is", and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.

Ending things

You can stop using Psyche and request deletion at any time. We may suspend accounts that breach these terms, with notice where reasonable.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand.
